I hate to do this but...

I keep getting odd comments in foreign languages with links attached to them so I am turning on comment moderation. I dislike the verification boxes with random text or numbers to avoid machine generated comments, as I'm sure the ones I'm receiving are, so I am going to try moderating comments to posts first. As long as that works I will just use that. If I have further problems, I will change to comment verification.

Seems a waste since the blog isn't really being updated but I still have hopes of returning to active blogging soon.

Thanks to all who continue to visit as I am still getting a number of hits regularly.

While I Was Away

I know I have been absent from this blog for sometime but the title of this post actually refers to my recent trip to Indiana to spend time with my mother. Many things happened while I was there and during our quick trip to Tennessee, that I kept finding myself wanting to blog about. The problem is that when I'm at mom's, I'm stuck on dial-up to connect to the internet. It's such a hassle to deal with that really slow connection that I don't enjoy trying to write and upload only to lose the connection before it completes. So I made some notes on my laptop and came home with good intentions about completing those thoughts I jotted down once I had broadband available again.

Posting my response to Linda's meme today was my first step toward getting back to the blog on a regular basis. While visiting one of her other responders, I was reminded of how much I used to enjoy the Wordless Wednesdays back when I was actively posting and I plan to resume those as well. From my trip, I have a couple of personal stories about family members who have suffered recent health crises. I also have an idea for a post about a lovely older woman I met when I went to visit one of them at a nursing home in Byrdstown, Tennessee. I've also been doing quite a bit of work in Paint Shop Pro and might consider posting some of those projects at some point in time.

Daughter Dee and her girls are coming over tomorrow for an overnight visit and I hope to get some new pictures of them to post here. I'm sort of bursting with ideas and plans right now and I don't want to burn myself out just trying to plan what I want to do first.

I just hope there's still people stopping by here from time to time. If so, I hope you'll come again soon. Leave a comment and I'll be glad to stop by your spot and visit with you as well.

Later!

A quick update, The Women's Colony and a sad note

Once again, I apologize for the lack of posts here. I am not ready to give up on the idea of blogging but just can't get back into the groove either. I spend a bit of time frequenting Facebook and have been working in Paint Shop Pro again, mostly editing photographs and occasionally I do some digital scrapbooking. I've also been writing a bit although nothing I feel compelled to share here... mostly for my own enjoyment or posting in response to prompts at creative writing sites. Real life tends to take up a bit of my time these days as well.

I do still frequent several blogs each day and some short time back I added The Women's Colony to my list of daily reads. I think I found the blog through the Pioneer Woman's site. Mrs. G posts there on occasion. It's a fun blog, with a little more adult content than most that I read. There are many guest posts on the site in each of the several 'rooms' at the Colony. I enjoy Mrs. G's self-deprecating humor and unique third person style of blogging. She also hosts frequent giveaways that you might want to check out if you care to visit her site.

On a sad note, I had to put Mr. Woody K. Nibs to sleep a couple of weeks ago. Woody had been losing weight and after a couple of visits to the vet, x-rays revealed that he had cancer and that it was not realistic to try to treat him. He really didn't act sick and remained active up to the very end. If his breathing hadn't become labored, I probably wouldn't have taken him to the vet that day. He was such a sweetheart and Ginger and I both miss him.

I hope you won't give up on me just yet. I still plan to return to posting regularly one of these days!

Busy, Busy, Busy

I want to continue writing here so much but I just can't seem to find the time with everything that's going on. I've recently returned to work and am fortunate enough to be able to work from home and set my own schedule but that's part of the problem. I haven't learned yet how to set boundaries between my personal time and work. Hopefully, I'll make that adjustment soon.

I haven't got a clue whether anyone still visits or not but if you do, please don't give up on me. I plan on returning and possibly even update the design. If you are still stopping by, thanks for checking on me even though I've been AWOL.

Hope to see you soon!

Where Have All the Posters Gone?

As I surf through some of my regular blog reads, it seems that several of my fellow bloggers are suffering the same loss of blogging mo-jo as I am. I just can't seem to come up with a single (post-worthy) idea for a post nor am I able to turn my rather mundane days into funny or serious little vignettes to share with the few good folks who stop by here on occasion.

Just to let you know, I'm here, life is going good, I just don't seem to have much to say or share at the moment.

Like Douglas MacArthur, I shall return!

(I'm thinking that my new found addiction to Facebook might be part of the problem.)

It Finally Happened To Me!

I have just deleted two comments from the same poster, profile unavailable of course that is simply pure spam. The comments were made in two separate posts, not even current ones, one post was made last April. Both comments contained the exact same message about Cialis and both have been removed. I sure hope there won't be anymore.

I just don't understand why anyone would do something as stupid as this. I mean, what's the point? I've been mildly inconvenienced -- big deal.

I saw this quote in the Old Farmer's Almanac newsletter this morning. It's much nicer than comments about erectile dysfunction problems.

Life is mostly froth and bubble;
Two things stand like stone:
KINDNESS in another’s trouble,
COURAGE in your own.

Blogs I Read

Below is a group of links that you will find on the sidebar of my blog. Most of them have been there from very early days. They are all current and I visit most of them nearly every day that I am online.

I thought it might make a good post to explain why these blogs continue to be my usual reads. If you come here often and do not see your blog listed it doesn't mean that I don't visit your site on a regular basis. I just made a determination some time ago to limit the number of links I displayed as I know my reaction to seeing a list of links a mile long.

There may come a day when I replace one or more of these links but I tend to be a pretty loyal reader. If you will note, there are other links on my sidebar but these are the personal blogs I return to time and again. The others pertain to interests or hobbies but these are the ones that touch me personally for one reason or another.

  • Not Quite What I Had Planned
  • -- this is Kristie's blog. I've followed Kristie since the old Caringbridge days when I followed several young children with cancer on a regular basis. Her daughter, Kendrie, had cancer and is now, thankfully, in remission. Her husband Blaine, who is in the military and sounds like a candidate for husband of the year to me, has also stared down cancer and is still undergoing reconstructive surgery to repair damage caused by the treatment. Besides cancer, their lives have been filled with infertility issues, adoption, natural parenthood, surrogacy, and multiple moves that go along with being an Air Force family. Kristie is hilarious, straight forward and just downright lovable.
  • Don't Get Me Started
  • -- this is Linda Sharp's blog. My daughter Dee turned me onto this site. Linda is down to earth, plain speaking and you will never leave her blog without knowing exactly where she stands. She rales against injustice, particularly on behalf of children and her blog is filled with satire, politics, social commentary and just plain fun. Linda and her husband seem devoted to one another, which is good as they struggle with a marriage that requires them to live in separate locations. There is no doubt as to Linda's devotion to her own three girls. I don't always agree with her but I daggone love to read her blog, which she often updates several times a day.
  • Confessions of a Pioneer Woman
  • -- ohmigosh, who doesn't know Ree? I see links to her blog everywhere I go. I love this read. Daily life on a cattle ranch, homeschooling, a full blown section for cooking and recipes, another section for photography and photoshop and continuing sagas about her romance with her husband, Marlboro Man. Think calf nuts and go enjoy this one. Besides, she has great giveaways with fantastic prizes just out of the blue. You won't be sorry! Humor abounds on Ree's site and as she says, she likes to keep things real.
  • Miz Booshay
  • -- Donna Boucher's blog. I'm not sure exactly where, when or how I first came across Miz Booshay's blog. I was reading her long before she started doing tutorials in the photography section of the Pioneer Woman's blog and boy is she ever talented. She is another deeply family oriented blogger. Y'all seeing a theme here so far?
  • Pensieve
  • -- Robin is the Pensieve one. Her blog led me into a brief spell of poetry writing and such and I would like to get back into that. Robin has a large readership, as do each of the blogs I've previously listed. Robin is another blogger with a great sense of humor and never hesitates to let you know that her family comes first.
  • Life Is Like A Lunchbox
  • -- Nan is one of my younger reads. I found her probably though Friday's Feast or something like that. She is a preacher's wife and together they are raising their four small sons. Nan is into photography and photoshop too.
  • 2nd Cup Of Coffee
  • --this is 'Lidna' (actually Linda but she has a post about being Lidna). I found Linda through Friday's Feast and realized that she was born and raised and still lives in my hometown of Muncie, Indiana. She writes an inspirational column for the local paper there and is involved in with the youth group at her church. Linda is another blogger who writes with wit and humor and yes, you guessed it, her family is her number one priority.
  • Faith In Community
  • -- this is Diane. She is a Lutheran minister somewhere around the twin city area in Minnesota. We connected when we discovered that we both collected bookmarks. Diane is very intelligent and is devoted to her church, her husband and step-sons and her dog, Scout. She often posts copies of her sermons online and is an avid reader. Like many ministers, she is a fantastic communicator. What I like most about Diane is that she is able to keep God out of the box and looks at life and speaks of life with the understanding and intelligence that God gave her. She has a lot of great reading suggestions!
  • Faithful Froggers
  • -- this is Heather's site. Heather's family is another hold over from Caringbridge. She and Donny lost their son Jacob, who was one of a set of triplets, a little over two years ago. They have since adopted a beautiful little girl from South America who has the most beautiful smile ever. Along with their older son, the two remaining triplets, this family is just a real blessing to read about. She seldom updates on a daily basis, as you can imagine, but what a powerful message she leaves you with. Family important here? Oh yeah!
  • Gill's Jottings
  • -- I really enjoy Gill's site. Gill is from South Africa and was my first international read. I'm sure we met through Friday's Feast as well and something about her connected. I'm pretty sure that it has to do with her strong sense of family. Am I boring or what?
  • Linda at This and That
  • -- another Linda here. This Linda is in West Virginia and I felt a connection to her because I know we are both divorced. She has remarried but I know we've experienced similar situations and that even in the midst of family problems, we both care deeply about our families.
  • Mercedes' World
  • -- Mercedes is another younger read for me. She intrigued me with a comment she left on a post and we connected through a request she made about my doing some tags for Memes she hosts in Paint Shop Pro. I had never done that and was pleased that I was able to make a few that she uses for her Memes. It didn't hurt that she is a dog lover, and even though she hasn't started a family yet, you can tell from the love she had for her beloved Patches, (who passed away a few months ago) that she has the caring and devoted nature of a family oriented person. She also moved up this year from teaching kindergarten to fifth grade so 'teach' got a promotion.

So these are my normal daily reads, even if I don't always comment when I stop by. This was a good exercise for me as truthfully, I wasn't sure what it is about all of them that drew me in and now I know. They are all intelligent, funny, talented and most are as family oriented as I am.

I happened to realize while doing this that the majority of them are around my daughter's ages, late 30s - early 40s. I'm not surprised by that. I guess I can relate to what they are saying as I hear so much of the same things from my own girls and of course, I've been where these gals are at. A couple of them are much younger than I am and two or three are around my age. I am surprised to realize that I have no male bloggers listed here as I generally enjoy men's point of view.

Thank you ladies, one and all for entertaining me each and every day!

Oh, I'm wondering if you know what drew you to the blogs you read each day and what keeps you going back. Have you thought about it or do you just read?

As Miz Booshay would say -- 'Encourage one another'! (my favorite thing about her blog... that and her photography)

Wordless Wednesday Will Have to Wait and Stuff

I wanted to post Wordless Wednesday yesterday but never got the chance. If I can squeeze it in to my schedule, I will try to make it happen today, even if it is late.

I actually got the camera out yesterday to take some pictures of three squirrels eating the bird feed I had scattered on the ground for my feathered friends. As luck would have it, as soon as the camera was out and I was setting up my first shot, a loud noise frightened away two of the furry little creatures. I did manage to take a few shots of the lone fellow rooting seed off the ground but they're really not all that interesting. I tried to get video of him scurrying up and down the tree trunk towards the corn holder I hung specifically for the squirrels, which they ignore in preference to the easy pickings on the ground, but every time I would start the video, he would just hang there on the side of the tree. Of course as soon as I stopped the video capture, he would take off again. Film of him clinging to the side of the tree didn't seem too interesting either so I gave up on that set completely.

I spent most of yesterday morning working in the yard, trying to get some needed work done before it got too hot. We actually had a brief respite, about 12 hours (overnight basically), from the heat advisory and it wasn't too bad mowing (only about half the yard as the other half is totally fried now) and clearing away debris. By the time I was finished, the heat advisory was back in place and evidenced by my appearance. I spent the rest of the morning in the shower!

I decided to do some computer maintenance in the afternoon. Windows kept sending through updates and something was causing a problem forcing me to restart the monster every now and then and it took a while to get all of that taken care of. It is running much better, at least for now.

This afternoon, I have to get my hair trimmed. I've been trying to decide whether to go back to highlighting it or leave it natural. The gray has really overtaken most of the blond and yes I was a natural blond all of my life until I added highlights later in life. I just don't know if I want to start that process all over again or not. Besides, I kind of like the silvery gray color that is coming in. I've also toyed with the idea of going short again. Decisions, decisions.... what to do. So it looks like the usual trim will happen until I'm ready to make a change.

John will be coming home on Saturday for a few days. I'm trying to decide what food to have on hand for those times when he's around here. Dee is working this weekend so I don't know if he will get to see her and the girls or not. He has enough vacation time that he will be able to get back here several times before the end of the year and of course he will have the holidays so I'm sure they'll manage to connect on one of those trips. The rest of my time today, other than when I sneak some time online, will be spent on laundry, which I dislike doing and cleaning the house, which I also dislike! I love the house being clean and go through spells where I keep up with it most of the time but I'm human and the computer is much more fun than the routine of house care. It shouldn't be this hard with only me, the cat and a dog and it wouldn't be except for the fact that - Marsha, thy name is procrastination!

Well, I'm off to get started on the laundry and to pull the vacuum out (that's the first step, actually using it is a different story). I hope your day is filled with something more fun and interesting than the routine stuff I'm facing today!

    In The Meantime

Sorry for the delay in posting Sarah's interview but I have been fighting a horrible headache all day long. It's after 4pm and I am just now getting on the computer for the first time today which is unheard of at my house. I'm sure it's allergy related, most of my headaches are. Every once in a while one of them will get out of control and zap me for a day or so. Hopefully, this one will not last that long as it finally seems to be ebbing a bit.

Unfortunately, today is also John's birthday and I just don't feel like doing much for him. We did have a cake for him at Dee's on Wednesday night but I still wanted to do something nice for him today. Perhaps I can do something tomorrow.

Here is a picture I took of Sarah yesterday morning after we got back from our photo session in the park where we turned into a couple of sweaty and miserably hot gals very quickly. She's happy in this photo because she is resting in the comfort of air conditioning. I was also smiling behind the lens as well, thankful to be out of the heat even though I was still dripping wet... there's nothing like the deep south in the summer months. It's unbearable sometimes even for those who love the heat.

    Be On The Lookout

for my interview with Sarah Grace. I finally got over to Dee's and spent a day or so with her and the girls and John. Did I mention that John is home! He got in last Saturday night and will be pulling out early next Thursday with a trailer behind him, moving furniture and clothing and all things necessary to make a home in Missouri.

We tried to get our entire little family together, including Jamie and her girls from Florida but life is just not cooperating so we will do a get together some other time. It's pretty hectic when one is trying to move and visit all at the same time so it is probably for the best that we put off the mini-reunion. We will have to be content with our brief visit to Dee's and seeing my oh so grown up Bossier City granddaughters.

I was able to get some really nice shots of Sarah this morning at a small park near their house, shortly after we had breakfast. I'll be posting her interview with some of those shots as soon as I can get it organized and together the way I want it.

In the meantime, y'all have a great 4th of July. I hope your celebration is filled with family, friends, great food and lots of fireworks and fun.

    Back In Business

Between the need to just take some time away from blogging and other aspects of my daily routine and some computer problems this week, I've been AWOL. But I think I'm back in business now.

I have some thoughts about a couple of things I want to do on the blog. While I was taking some time and deep in thought, I decided that I would like to do a series of interviews with members of my family and maybe even some friends if I feel comfortable enough with the process. I decided to start with one of my granddaughters, Sarah Grace, mostly because over the years, she has been my most consistent computer buddy.

I already have an outline and some of the questions and answers prepared but I really wanted to include pictures with this. I may change my mind about that if I don't hurry up and put something together so I can publish the first interview.

Also, I want to thank Meredith for a couple of awards she has given me while I've been away. I'll get those posted as soon as possible and passed on to others. I always have a problem with how to pass awards on as there are so many blogs that I enjoy reading that it's hard to decide who to give them to. I've had it in the back of my mind to do some posts about various bloggers I read and why I read them and what I like about them. Not that I have a great readership, but if I can pass along some links to interesting and / or fun sites to a few people, then why not.

I seem to have a lot on my mind but much of what's there doesn't seem that it would be that interesting to others. I will do a post to catch up further on mom's health, my son's move to Missouri and the job offer that seems to come and go before anything gets settled. There's also photography and Paint Shop Pro, books that I'm reading are gathering dust and the post I want to do on Factor V Leiden.

Anyway, I am trying to get back into the groove here so I hope to be posting more again and leaving a few more comments at other sites. So y'all take care, see ya soon!

    Life Beyond Blogging

I'll be leaving shortly for another Cursillo weekend. I was called earlier this year to be on staff again after just having served last October. It is a little soon, but I think they were in dire need of help. It's a good thing they got me when they did, because it really has turned out to be a bad time for me to do this. However, it is an obligation I couldn't back out of easily. It's a special retreat and requires a lot of effort and prayer. Everything about the weekend is accomplished through prayerful action.

I just hope I'm prepared to spend the next few days with little sleep and lots of hard work and still be able to put a smile on my face for those making this special weekend as Pilgrims.

This also means I will miss this weeks 15 Words and Friday Feast but I'm sure all the other bloggers out there can hold the fort down.

Have a great weekend and I'll 'see' y'all when I get back late Sunday evening!

    The Royal Banana

Mercedes gifted me with this award and I would like to pass it on to Linda from This & That and to Gill at Gill's Jottings. Both are good people that I only know through blogging but am convinced that I would also enjoy knowing them IRL.

    Thanks Mercedes!

    Light Housekeeping

I finally got around to updating my sidebar with a few minor changes. There was outdated information in some sections and I wanted to add a spot for awards and change a couple of others. I still need to verify and correct any outdated links I might have but I got a late start this morning and that will just have to wait.

The awards section is missing a few as I received some while working from my laptop, which went kerplunk earlier this year. I had all critical data from the laptop backed up but unfortunately, with all the travel and general busy-ness in my life the past year or so, I missed getting a few things stored to a secondary site. So if you sent me an award and it is not there, I apologize. I value them all and the thought and generous, caring nature behind them but alas, I am human and sometimes fail. That's why I decided to go ahead and get the section up -- before I lose any others.

You may now proceed with your regulary scheduled browsing and perusing of this site!

An Update and Plans for Blog Posts

I thought I would give a brief update on Margaret's condition, which has improved since last Saturday's very difficult post. She is a long way from being out of the woods and I would say that her condition remains volatile. Her family is finding hope again and is once more talking cautiously about the possibility of getting her to Baylor. I keep their hopes and mine at the forefront of my prayers as always and ask that you do the same for my friend.

I realized that I have done very little posting of the work I have done in Paint Shop Pro (PSP) and I would like to start a series of posts that feature some of my graphics. It is an outlet for me, another form of expression that unfortunately, I am not always good at following through with. I have been in a bit of a creative slump recently, probably in part due to the emotional upheavals and travel in my life the past year or so but I do have many things I would like to share here.

So I'm off for now to look through my collection to see what I can put out here for viewing.

    Later!

WOW - or How To Increase Hits On Your Blog

I logged onto my blog late yesterday afternoon and found that the number of hits had increased significantly beyond what I usually get. As I was considering a new and serious post, the hits kept coming and I'm going WT- (I'm trying hard to give up that using that particular letter/word to express myself... so you fill in the dash... and no, I'm not always successful at avoiding the use of colorful language... okay, so I'm not perfect). Anyhow, it only took a quick trip to my favorite blog to see why.

There on the front of Kristie's blog was my name and a link to my pathetic little blog and a quote of a comment I had left on one of her posts. Ohmigosh... I've been quoted by Kristie. My heart started pounding, my head began to swell and for about half a second, I felt very important!

The truth is, I use this blog as a release for me. If someone reads what I write and enjoys it, I think that is great. If not, well I am seasoned (read old) enough to handle that too. I welcome your comments or simply your presence but I will never consider what I do to be in the same league as my favorite bloggers. You'll find a partial list of my favorites with links on the right side somewhere.

Kristie is my favorite because of her openness and willingness to share who she is and her life experience honestly and with great humor. I've followed her family from the pre-blog days of her caringbridge site for daughter Kendrie. What an amazing story Kristie has to share, not only about Kendrie's cancer, but also that her husband Blaine suffers from cancer as well. Even how she and Blaine became parents to their three children will have you laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time.

So check out her blog and let's just see how fast we can run up the number of hits on her site! uh, the 2 or 3 of you who didn't get here from her site in the first place that is!

(I do have a serious post about a change in my plans and my friend Margaret planned for later... I just haven't been able to find the words just yet but please keep Margaret in your prayers.)

    My First Entry

Actually, this is not officially my first entry. I set up this blog almost two years ago, made a single entry and never did anything else with it. I'm not sure why I never followed through, but since it was so long ago, I deleted that entry and decided to start fresh.

I'm pretty certain that nobody really cares what I think so I guess I am writing this more for me than with any delusional thought that the lives of others will be transformed by my writings. If you stumble upon this blog and enjoy one of the entries, that's great. I hope you will let me know... just press the comment button below and leave your thoughts.

If you disagree with what I have to say please feel free to comment on those thoughts too... just know that I bruise easily. If you absolutely hate my words, I hope you would simply choose to leave the blog and let my words go peacefully into that good night as I have no power and my words are not intended to harm. I am not armed; I am not dangerous; however, I am sometimes off the wall, care passionately and am generally far too willing to foist my thoughts on
share my humble opinion with others.

    See ya soon!
